A graphic novel, audiobook and book for discussion

I continued with my new favourite graphic novel series, listened to a new author and read a book with my book circle.

Another volume of A Business Proposal. Everything goes so fast but also so slow. I thought that I knew what the play was going to be like for at least a couple of volumes and it just switches up. Always a treat to read this series. A new character was introduced in this volume that I think is going to stir up some (a little tiresome) jealousy in the coming volume. I don’t like the possessiveness the male characters have, especially not in the cases where the females can talk for themselves. Am enjoying the read anyway and look forward to the next one.

I chose a Royally Inconvenient Marriage because I saw something else I wanted to read from this author but they didn’t have it at my audiobook service so I went with this one instead. I do typically like the marriage of convenience trope but this one didn’t hit home. The plot was a bit thin, I wanted more. Felt a little repetitive at times, I think for example that the author really likes nipples, they were mentioned a lot.

We read The Distinctly Competent District Councillor together at work in our book circle. We haven’t had our final discussion yet but I think most people enjoyed it. I liked it but found it tricky to really pinpoint during which time this feels like it takes place. It is set present day but there’s an aura that makes it feel like it could be set during the 60s or 80s. Maybe it’s the language, maybe it’s how the characters are behaving. It makes me think. Nice with a book that really makes use of the vocabulary.
