Wild Dark Shore was chosen as our university book circle book last autumn, at a time where I couldn’t participate. I then read the beginning to follow along in the discussions and then decided to leave it at that. Until now. I don’t remember a lot about the plot, except something towards the ned. Let’s see if I agree with the others on this one.

Wild Dark Shore – Charlotte McConaghy
Swedish title: En vild mörk kust
Originally published: 2025
Elevator pitch synopsis: A woman washes up on the beach on a stormy island with the world’s biggest seed bank. Where are all the researchers? Why did she come to the island? And why is all the communication dead?
I’ve spent quite some time to think of what rating to give this one. If I would have read this when I was initially supposed to, I think I would have given it a quite low rating. Now, I knew some things beforehand that had me mentally prepared for what was to come and I could in some way appreciate how the buildup was leading up to the events.
I’m not sure I’ve read a book quite like this before. The environment and the environmental changes takes a big place in this book, this together with the thriller is new to me. This book is quite dark. It’s not enough that the island is getting dangerous to be at, something is off with the humans as well.
It takes quite a lot of time for us to start getting some answers. Perhaps a little too slow for my taste. Otherwise, the book was quick to get through and I was a it surprised that I did enjoy the unfolding of what had happened. Not enjoying the events per say, but getting all the answers. As mentioned before, if I hadn’t known what was coming I would probably have disliked this book. Maybe I was in the right headspace when reading this, more in a thriller mode.
I have this book 3 out of 5 stars – I liked it.
The other book circle members have this book at an average of 4.33, that’s not a bad rating. With my rating, I lovered it to an even 4.0.
