Angie Roseland runs the Sweet Dreams Bake Shop in the seacoast town of Sweet Cove, Massachusetts. The building’s new owners are not renewing the bake shop’s lease, and Angie is running out of time to find a new location. When one of the town’s longtime residents is murdered, Angie finds herself on the suspect list. With the help of her three sisters and a huge orange cat, Angie works to uncover the killer’s identity.
Many of my listens lately have been the café owner is wrongfully accused of murder and solves the murder in order to save themselves-type of books. I think I need to mix it up a little with other things too.
So, how was this one?
It was very predictable in a as soon as the murdered was introduced I knew who did it kind of way. Sometimes there are many suspects and you have at some point suspected the right one but then changed your mind when new facts are introduced, but here the decoys were too obvious decoys so they didn’t really convince me.
I didn’t really care for the love interest in the book, I think it could have worked well without it. Maybe if the main character hadn’t been so much I find him so attractive even though I shouldn’t. Also, who buys their brother a house as a birthday gift? We didn’t really get a lot of background there.
There was also this thing at the ending that I both disliked and got me a bit intrigued to see how things will turn out. I don’t really want to say what it is because it is at the very end but I hope this includes the cat as well.
Even though there were some things I didn’t like, it was an okay listen. It was a bit cosy to have in the background. I just might listen to the next one as well in order to see where the ending of this one takes us.
I gave the book 2 out of 5 stars – it was okay.
