The Wives of Bath

The Wives of Bath – Susan Swan

Original title – The Wives of Bath

This is a story of Mary Beatrice Bradford or Mouse for short who is sent to ‘Bath Ladies College’ because of her step mother Sal. At the college she meets the lovely Victoria Quinn and Pauline Skyes who are her dorm buddies. As Mouse gets to know Paulie she finds out that she isn’t like the other girls at the college, that she actually hates the female gender. Paulie follows in the words of ‘Kong’ in order to become a true male. Eventually Pauline does the unthinkable after the school dance which involves murdering the school gardener.

I read this book as part of my English class and was pretty worried about it because the usual books that they choose for us a really boring, but this one proved them wrong. I found it hard to put this book down at times as Mouse and Paulie tried passing all of ‘Kongs’ test into becoming a true male.

The Other Side of Dawn

The Other Side of Dawn – John Marsden

Original title – The Other Side of Dawn

Earlier books in the series: Tomorrow When The War Began, The Dead of The Night, The Third Day The Frost, Darkness Be My Friend, Burning For Revenge and The Night Is For Hunting.

As d-day is coming closer, Ellie and her friends have been given special orders from a New Zealand commando who has been sent by Colonel Finnley. They have to attack as many places as hard as they can to try re-gain what was once their country. During the attempt of blowing up a petrol station the group is split up, Ellie ends up in a chase and boards a train only to be captured by the soldiers. Everytime she asks about her friends she gets the response that her friends have been killed.

I have read this series right from the beginning and have enjoyed every moment of it. As I neared the end I began to wonder how Marsden would end it. He did it in a way that I wasn’t expecting, but didn’t really fulfill what I had wanted. I look forward to ready the Ellie Chronicles to see where the story goes from here.

Morgongåvan

Morgongåvan – Eva Ibbotson

Original title: The Morning Gift

I give this book 5 stars out of 5 possible.

Original title: The Matchmaker

I give this book 5 stars out of 5 possible.

Dead as a Doornail

Dead as a Doornail – Charlaine Harris

Original title: Dead as a Doornail

I give this book 4.5 stars out of 5 possible.

Earlier books in the series:  Dead Until DarkLiving Dead in DallasClub Dead and Dead to the World.

Later books in the series: Definitely Dead, All Together Dead, From Dead to Worse, Dead and Gone Dead In The Family and Dead Reckoning.

Dead as a Doornail is the fifth book in the series about Sookie Stackhouse. The tv-series True Blood is based on this series.

I think that this series gets better. In this book, there’s a killier running around (again). And it needs to be solved. I love how the characters are built. Even though it’s a bit silly that every non-human guy – or at least a little bit non-human, are attracted to Sookie.

I love the name of this book, and the phrase “Dead as a doornail” is actually used in the book. I like books with humor.

I like the language. I find it quite easy and it doesn’t take that long to read one of the books. But it’s not too easy, it doesn’t feel simple. It’s a big vocabulary and it variates, just as it should. Charlaine Harris does a good job writing these books.

Dead to the World

Dead to the World – Charlaine Harris

Original title: Dead to the World

I give this book 4 stars out of 5 possible.

Earlier books in the series:  Dead Until DarkLiving Dead in Dallas and Club Dead.

Later books in the series:  Dead as a Doornail, Definitely Dead, All Together Dead, From Dead to Worse, Dead and Gone Dead In The Family and Dead Reckoning.

Dead to the World is the fourth book in the series about Sookie Stackhouse.

I like that this book is back in Bon Temps. After two books taking place in different cities it’s nice to be back in the home area – even though I’ve never been there, it just feels like more home in the series. I had no idea what this book was going to be about (other than Sookie Stackhouse and her friends) when I started and I got a nice surprise. I liked how it started, unexpected but quite nice idea, even though it wasn’t so realistic at times – but it’s fantasy, right? As usual, there’s a mystery to be solved + a weird situation that needs to be fixed. I love that I don’t know what’s going to happen. You don’t have a clue who is behind the mysteries, the one who is responsible.

Definitely a series I’m going to continue reading.

Club Dead

Club Dead – Charlaine Harris

Original title: Club Dead

I give this book 4 stars out of 5 possible.

Earlier books in the series: Dead Until Dark and Living Dead in Dallas.

Later books in the series: Dead to the World, Dead as a Doornail, Definitely Dead, All Together Dead, From Dead to Worse, Dead and Gone Dead In The Family and Dead Reckoning.

This is the third book about Sookie Stackhouse. It’s the tv-series True Blood is based on.

I actually think that this series is getting better. It’s hard to say what I think about this book without writing about what happens. There’s a quite big change in Sookies life in the beginning that I liked. I thought that it needed a change. You got to meet new people, quite interesting. I thought that it was more “swing” in this book. The story went forward. There were mysteries, twists and everything got explained in the end. I can say that I really enjoyed reading this book. When I’ve read this book I feel like I want to watch the tv-series and see the difference. But there’s this tiny detail that’s stopping me: the non-clothing part. We’ll se how it goes. Until I decide, I’m going to continue reading the books anyway.

Evernight

Evernight – Claudia Gray

Original title: Evernight

I give this book 3 stars out of 5 possible.

Bianca’s parents become teachers at the boarding school Evernight. Bianca does not want to go there and attempts to run away before the school year even starts. She doesn’t belong there. She would probably have gone through with it if it wasn’t for meeting Lucas.

The sequel to Evernight is called Stargazer.

There might be a slight spoiler-alert here. Even though I’m trying not to write it too obvious. You might not have a clue what it is about if you haven’t read the book. It’s your decision if you want to continue reading.

Before I started reading this book I only knew “the story is placed at a boarding school”. I like books that takes place at boarding schools and looked forward to reading this book. I have to say that I got a bit disappointed. I got a slight feeling that it was a little fantasy in it, but I didn’t know for sure until “BOM” there is was and suddenly there were a lot of proof that it was. Afterwards I’m not sure if I missed all the signs before the “BOM”, because I’m not a native English speaker, or if they just weren’t there. I thought that the language in the book were pretty easy so I didn’t feel like I were missing out on stuff.

There was one more thing that I didn’t like about this book. It’s how the main character Bianca is built. Even though you get a feeling that Bianca is kind of strong and am able to look out for herself, there’s a guy there who is going to protect her. The guy is always the worse. Oh, right – one more thing I didn’t like. I thought it was kind of hard to believe that Bianca could love him just like that. I find it hard to believe that you get all “I need to be with him”, “why isn’t he talking to me?” after meeting someone one time.

But there was something that made me like the book enough to make me want to read the next book. I want to know what is going to happen.

Prinsessan & tiggarflickan

Prinsessan & tiggarflickan – Kate Brian

Original title: The Princess and the Pauper

I give this book 4 stars out of 5 possible.
